Ok, so edit /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts
that is what the installer does to change hostname.
I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed XFCE (in a VM) and they don't setup a hostname by default (weird..even Slackware defaults to using the name darkstar for the host)
and I ended up editing (as root) /etc/host and /etc/hostname followed with a reboot to get an actual name and not some random generated numbered machine name.
