It may have something to do with me messing around with the grub config file, but I have a feeling that this isn't the source of the problem.I will double check in the am, but pretty sure all of my vm's and creations use the grub theme I setup before the snapshot
This seems to have changed something because when I tried to make a snapshot with a custom tar.gz file mx-snapshot failed to create the ISO (it suggests to check disk space as a generic output but that's not the problem). I'll investigate this further as it appears to be going somewhere.to change the theme and image on the live boot screens, you would need to edit the iso-template files under /usr/lib/iso-template/iso-template.tar.gz. there are files related to syslinux (legacy liveusb boot), isolinux (legacy optical media boot) and grub (all UEFI boots).
P.S. Sorry for not replying sooner, my internet was down. Thank you for being patient.
