This was the only way that I could get the WiFi working?... But ... it still shows:

Which's not a real driver. It just indicates either the correct driver was not loaded for some reason or there are conflicting ones ...
In the meantime, 4.9 reached EOL long time ago, maybe you try some newer kernels :)
I've had better luck with older kernels on older hardware, so I went to this older kernel out of habit considering the age of the machine! I'll give the default 6.1 kernel a go, but I bet I'll have more problems! We'll see! :)
